Trade unions at various levels should mobilize workers to contribute to the reform and development of the country's State-owned enterprises (SOEs), Wei Jianxing, chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, said in Beijing .
Addressing the third presidium of the 13th National Congress of Trade Unions, Wei said promoting SOEs' progress is a solemn mission of the working class.
Wei urged trade unions to collaborate with the Party and the government to help implement the decision regarding SOE reform and growth adopted at the 4th Plenary of the 15th Communist Party of China Central Committee last month.
Trade unions nationwide should study the decision and do their part to address any problems arising from the process of completing strategic readjustment and restructuring of the State-owned business. They also should help the government reduce the number of redundant SOE workers, launch re-employment projects, and guarantee the basic needs of the laid-off workers ; protect the economic benefits of the workers and smooth labour-management relations ; safeguard the workers' democratic rights by giving the workers' congress more say in enterprise management and decision making .
The workers' representatives should be admitted to the board of directors of the SOEs or State-holding firms .
The workers are the main force ensuring the success of the country's SOE reform and development, and trade unions should protect their enthusiasm .
